Its manufacture required a precise technique developed by the <em>galocheiros<\/em> or <em>madre\u00f1eros<\/em>, artisans who specialised in the trade. The workbench, axe, flat and cup adzes, drills, gouges and awls and the <em>raseiro<\/em>, a long blade with two handles that was used to roughen the external surface of the pieces, were part of their equipment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/calzado.jpg\"><img class=\" wp-image-1284 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/calzado.jpg\" alt=\"calzado\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The core of the collection of <em>madre\u00f1as<\/em>, <em>galochas<\/em> and <em>zocas<\/em> on display was brought to the Museum in 1988 by Alfonso Fern\u00e1ndez Canteli, author of the monographic study <em>The &#8220;madre\u00f1a&#8221;: type and distribution in the north of Spain<\/em>, published in 1987, the classification of which is the reference used in the exhibition. The pieces come from Asturias, Galicia, Le\u00f3n, Cantabria and, to a lesser extent, from other regions of the Iberian Peninsula and Europe. As extensive as their geographical spread is the variety of models and versions of wooden footwear, with variations that affect their name, morphology, finishes and decoration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/calzado2.jpg\"><img class=\"wp-image-1285 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/calzado2.jpg\" alt=\"calzado2\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--:--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wooden shoes were the usual shoe of peasants.
