However, in rural areas, the old weights and measures continued to be used and are still in use today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/pesos-medidas.jpg\"><img class=\"wp-image-1279 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/pesos-medidas.jpg\" alt=\"pesos-medidas\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 1852, the measures in use in the district of Grandas de Salime were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Length: vara (0.85 m), cuarta (0.21 m) and inch (0,02 m)<\/li>\n<li>Capacity for land: the fanega (48 kg), the ferrado (12 kg) and the tego (6 kg).<\/li>\n<li>Capacity for liquids: the ca\u00f1ada (4.56 L), the cuartillo (0.57 L) and the cuarter\u00f3n (0,14 L).<\/li>\n<li>Weight measures: the quintal (57.5 kg), the arroba (14.3 kg), the pound (0.57 kg) and the ounce (0.028 kg).<\/li>\n<li>Farming measures and surface area: the fanega of land (7.86 ares), the square vara (0.73 m) and the square cuadrada (0.46 m).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The room exhibits balances, scales, Roman scales, dynamometric scales, weights and containers of various sizes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Until the 19th century, the weights and measures of each province, judicial district or council were different.\u00a0 In the middle of that century, the use of the decimal metric system was imposed by law throughout the country, with the aim of standardising the criteria used in commercial transactions.
