The <em>forxa<\/em> is made up of a <em>regazal<\/em>, a wooden box and slate slabs filled with clay in which the fire is lit with charcoal, and large manual bellows that injects air into the hearth to stoke the fire. Next to the forge there is a basin with water to temper the iron and a pair of anvils: a solid one, <em>a incre de ferro <\/em>and a thinner one, <em>a incre de faer argolas <\/em>(rings).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/fragua.jpg\"><img class=\"wp-image-1119 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/fragua.jpg\" alt=\"fragua\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The tool kit of the <em>ferreiro<\/em> is ample and varied and includes, among other tools, <em>parafusas<\/em> (borer) for drilling iron, pliers, <em>craveiras<\/em> for making nails, lathe, drills or bending machines for the metal harnesses and rims of the wheels of country wagons. The manufacture of the latter required the assistance of a carpenter or a person with knowledge of the techniques of both trades.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/fragua2.jpg\"><img class=\"wp-image-1120 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/fragua2.jpg\" alt=\"fragua2\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the manufacture of tools of various uses and types, the <em>ferreiros<\/em> also carried out two fundamental activities in the rural world: <em>ferrar<\/em> cattle and horses and sharpening and repairing farming tools.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/fragua3.jpg\"><img class=\"wp-image-1121 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.museodegrandas.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/fragua3.jpg\" alt=\"fragua3\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--:--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The forge is the workshop of the ferreiro (blacksmith) and the workbench, always placed next to a window, and the forxa (forge) are essential elements in it.
